Summer is coming, the temperature is
rising, mechanical equipment, especially cranes and other large engineering
vehicles in the high temperature environment, frequent operations, is very easy
due to rising temperatures, equipment aging or improper operation triggered
spontaneous combustion, resulting in casualties and property damage. In order
to effectively prevent the crane fire accidents, safeguard operation safety,
crane driver and management personnel must enhance risk awareness, strengthen
equipment management, implementation of fire prevention measures.
I. Main Causes of Spontaneous Combustion in
Cranes
· Aging or Leakage of Oil Circuit System
Aging fuel pipelines, poor sealing, loose pipe joints, and other problems may easily lead to oil leakage, which may cause combustion in case of high temperatures or electric sparks.
· Short circuit or improper wiring
Aging of wiring, broken insulation,
improper connection or poor contact of electrical components may cause a short
circuit or electric arc, which may lead to fire.
· High temperature ignition of combustible
materials
High engine compartment temperature,
prolonged exposure to the sun, poor heat dissipation, etc., will often ignite
the accumulation of dust, oil, or residue, which is the most common cause of
fire in summer.
· Equipment failure or an impact fire
Mechanical failure caused by overheating,
abnormal friction, or impact damage to pipelines and circuits during operation
may also become the source of fire.
Ⅱ. Summer crane fire safety recommendations
· Choose a reasonable site, standardize
parking
Avoid parking the crane in gas stations,
chemical warehouses, flammable materials stacking area and other dangerous
areas. Avoid parking the crane in hazardous areas such as gas stations,
chemical warehouses and areas where flammable materials are stacked.
· Refuse illegal operation
In case of malfunction, do not “jump-start”
the test in the engine compartment, not to mention using open flame to repair,
so as to avoid electric arc or high temperature ignition.
· Control idling time, prevent overheating
Cranes idling for a long time will lead to
a sharp increase in the engine compartment temperature, accelerate the aging of
wires, rubber parts, enhance the risk of spontaneous combustion. In hot
weather, shorten the idling time and rationalize the operation rhythm.
· Strictly prohibit the storage of flammable
and explosive items
High-risk items such as gasoline, diesel
fuel, lighters, aerosols, etc. should not be stored in the cab, and you should
also avoid carrying fireworks into the vehicle.
· Regulate the use of cigarette lighter and
prohibit smoking inside the car
Check whether the cigarette lighter can be
popped up properly to prevent fire from continuous heating. Smoking in the
vehicle is strictly prohibited, especially in confined spaces and during
operations.
· Modify safely and use regular parts
If you need to add electrical appliances or
equipment, choose original or qualified brand products to avoid accidents
caused by mismatched wiring and excessive current load.
· Regularly check oil and electric lines
Adopt the habit of checking once a week and
at least once a month, focusing on whether the oil joints, wire insulation,
line wiring are standardized, and whether there is any abnormality such as
breakage and heat.
· Be highly alert to abnormal odors
If you find abnormal odors such as oil
smell, burnt smell, rubber smell, etc. while driving or working, you should
stop immediately to check and investigate hidden dangers, and put an end to the
fluke mentality.
· Equip fire extinguishers and maintain them
regularly
Each crane must be equipped with qualified
fire extinguishers, which should be placed in a position for quick access.
Regularly check the pressure gauge, nozzle and agent status and replace them
according to the prescribed cycle.
· Regular Professional Maintenance
Regularly visit a professional maintenance
station to fully check the fuel, electric circuit, hydraulic and engine
systems, and deal with hidden dangers promptly without leaving any dead ends.
Once you find smoke or fire in the vehicle,
you should immediately turn off the engine and disconnect the power, and use
the fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire at the root of the fire source;
when the fire cannot be controlled, quickly evacuate to a safe area and call
the police for help at the first time. After extinguishing the fire, check the
entire vehicle system in time and have it evaluated and repaired by a
professional if necessary.
Safety is no small matter, and prevention
is better than rescue. Especially in the hot summer, crane operators should
always tighten the “safety string”, do the daily fire prevention work carefully
and practically, to ensure that every time out of the car, every lifting are
safe and worry-free.
